Abstract

This work is product of a multidisciplinary exercise and examines the meaning of microbiology in agriculture, emphasizing the benefit of bio fertilizers. An evaluation of the biofertilizers can treat a large number of topics, whose relevance depends on the reader's interest or topic; however, the main content focuses on the types, modes of action, factors affecting its efficiency, production and impact in agriculture. Relatively simple technology of bio fertilization has been practiced for centuries and in most cases reported a positive effect on yield; however, the fact that in Mexico hasn’t been transferred this technology and that most producers doesn’t know about it, is preoccupying. Therefore, a greater link between the industry and scientist is required to collaborate on improving the production systems and quality of biofertilizers. It is also indispensable to have advice, guidance and training on its use to agricultural producers.
