We describe the results of an experiment with three planting dates, two fertilization levels and seven bean harvest densities of Pinto Saltillo in the State of Chihuahua. Most rainfed bean-producers harvested a density below INIFAP ́s recommendations; planted on different dates and generally use two levels of fertilization. The main objective of this study was to evaluate the behavior of Pinto Saltillo in three planting dates, two fertilization levels and seven density levels. The experiment to determine the optimum density was performed in 2010 at the Experimental Station in Bachiniva INIFAP. Planting dates were June 26th, July 6th and July 16th. The fertilizer levels were 30-50-00 and 00-00-00. The densities used were 1, 4, 8, 12, 16, 20 and 26 plants per meter (plants m-1) with furrows of 80 cm width in a single row (12 500, 50 000, 100 000, 150 000, 200 000, 250 000 and 325 000 plants per hectare, respectively). Highly significant differences were found for planting dates, fertilization levels and densities. In general, the highest yields were obtained with planting date on June 26th, 30-50-00 fertilization and densities of 12 and 16 plants-1 (150 000 and 200 000 plants ha-1). The highest yield of 3428 kg ha-1 was obtained in the first planting date with 30-50-00 fertilization and 26 plants m-1 (325 000 plants ha-1).
