Abstract

The agro-ecotourism is an alternative tourism for generating income and permanent jobs. It is considered a sustainable alternative of tourism, contributing to the preservation of species by protecting the environment and natural resources. This paper includes literature review of various materials. Fieldwork was conducted in 2008. The choice of the sample, 15 farmers in the community of San Juan Tezontla, and one producer in the community of St. Inés (State of Mexico, both communities) that work in this area. We conducted a census performed with these producers using a survey instrument, which data collection is a questionnaire. Its variables are income with and without the activity of the orchard, the maintenance costs, tenure and land surface and the main crops of the respondents.

Among the main results, agroecotourism highlights that really a viable option for generating income to producers, but require adequate infrastructure and services for the care of tourists as well as the promotion and expansion of this activity. The main objective of this research was to analyze the agro-ecotourism as a viable option for generating income in the community of San Juan Tezontla.
