Abstract

The statistics of gross domestic product (GDP) of economic activities for each of the municipalities in Mexico are not reported by the National Institute of Statistics, Geography and Informatics (INEGI) or any other institution; Even though, such statistics are quite important indeed for economic research as well as for the definition of public policies related to various economic activities in the country. In this paper, a non-parametric method for estimating these parameters is proposed. In order to show the effectiveness and benefits of this method, we obtained 6 640 estimates: 650 estimators of municipal GDP, 14 of the GDP of the first 14 states from A-J and 5 976 estimates of municipal and state GDP for each of the nine economic activities classified by INEGI (2012). The sums by State of these estimators are unbiased and have the same variance as the relevant information reported by INEGI in the system of national accounts.
