Abstract

Twelve maize hybrids were evaluated with the objective of defining those who exhibit high yields and high forage quality to take advantage in livestock production. The studio was conducted by the Faculty of higher Studies Cuautitlan (FESC UNAM), along with The National Institute for Forestry, Agricultural and Livestock Research (INIFAP). The research was conducted in the Spring-Summer season during 2009. Experiments were planted in the center of agricultural education of the UNAM FESC and in the Experimental Station Valle of Mexico (CEVAMEX – INIFAP. Each of the experiment consisted of 12 treatments (hybrids); four of the FESC, UNAM, two of INIFAP, five of INIFAP - FESC UNAM and a Check from ASGROW. The maize hybrids PUMA 1163, OWL and H 48 presented the highest yields of green matter (P < 0.05); OWL, 501 X 497, 504 X 408 and PUMA 1163 the highest dry matter (P < 0.05); and greater plant height had the hybrids 1167 PUMA and PUMA 1163 (P < 0.05). We can consider alternatives to the producers. PUMA 1163 and 1167 PUMA showed a high quality, with acceptable values of digestibility, protein and low content of fibers. The hybrids PUMA 1163 and H-48 had good forage quality with values of digestibility of 63, 61 and 60%, respectively; PUMA-1167 and P-1163 had values of protein of 8.4 and 8.6 and also values of NDF from 60 and 57% and FDA's 26 and 22.5%, respectively.
