Abstract

Experimentally calculating the evapotranspiration is performed with reasonable accuracy using lysimeters heavy Eddy Correlation techniques and Bowen ratio. These methods are limited because they provide precise values of evapotranspiration for a specific place and do not provide a regional scale ET. The application of an estimation of evapotranspiration using satellite measurements may exceed these limitations. The aim was to use the model METRICTM (Mapping Evapotranspiration at High Resolution using internalized Calibration), to estimate evapotranspiration using an energy balance, and compare it against data measured by Eddy Correlation system for vine growing on the coast of Hermosillo, Sonora. 12 images were used Landsat 5 TM satellite during the growing season of the vine with a Path= Row= 35 and 40. On a monthly evapotranspiration showed a coefficient of determination (R2) of 0.85, a relative error of 8.967 % and a standard error of 13.655 mm. For the full year period was estimated 704 mm and the observed value was 680 mm, which represented a relative error of 3.53 %. The energy balance at the earth's surface using satellite images make a reliable estimate of evapotranspiration, but additional testing is needed to further evaluate the accuracy of the method.
